EAA Chapter 108
Fort Walton Beach, FL |
Feb 2009 minutesOur February meeting was preceded by a traditional breakfast of pancakes and sausage prepared as usual by our superb chef, Bill Tuttle. (later during the meeting Bill's request to purchase a new grill was unanimously approved). The meeting was opened by President Gary Bean who quickly deferred to VP Fred Carnes. Fred introduced Okaloosa County Airports Director, Greg Donovan, who provided our group of 25 plus with a stimulating, upbeat and informative talk concerning the positive future he projects for all of the County Airports. A significant point of discussion involved the countermeasures being employed by Okaloosa County to deflect the unwarranted attempt by certain Panama City individuals to promote closure of the Northwest Florida Regional Airport in favor of the new Bay County Airport. (See February 22 edition NWF Daily News) Mr. Donovan then introduced Jonathan Dunn, the new FBO Manager at CEW who spoke enthusiastically about his plans to promote General Aviation by offering competitive prices and hosting or assisting with events to encourage both local and transient flying activity. President Bean briefed the group about forthcoming flying events: - Auburn 3/14/09 “Hero's Welcome” - Sun N' Fun, April 21-26 - OSH 7/27-8/02 - SERFI 10/23-10/25 It was suggested that Chapter 108 prepare a master schedule for the coming year around these events and others that we anticipate (picnics at Sky Ranch and Yellow River). The staff will work on this concept. Also discussed were upcoming Young Eagles events which Bob Sutherland will manage. Tentative plans are to fly local youth (Choctaw/CEW) on March 21st and a group from De Funiak at De Funiak on April 4th (with April 11th as a backup). Bob needs to know how many seats he can count on for those days. Gerry Poltorak announced that SERFI is financially sound. He also made his perennial plea for someone to assume part or all of his SERFI duties as our Chapter representative. Gerry, together with Jim Jansa and Bill Tuttle, have been the major movers and shakers from our Chapter. See you next month on the 21st. Ground support is needed as well as airplane seats.
